The Kleefeld Honey Run remained a success despite some differences this year.

“It’s just a really good draw for our community,” says Event Organizer Veronica English, “and how many of our local businesses were able to be involved.”

English says they had hoped to attract 200 runners, however, with a limit of 100 to a cohort the race saw 92.

One positive difference, according to English, was having the race take place on the road. “We haven’t had a road race here and there aren’t many in the area,” she offers. “If you wanted to do one, it would be in Steinbach or you would be heading to Winnipeg.”

Another new addition to this year’s race included chipped timing for greater precision and aiding in distancing runners. English explains how the chip is activated by crossing the gantry line and so the technology allowed for less error.

English does admit the province’s parameters “made it really stressful for the organizers”, however, together they managed to make the best of it.

“It’s just a really good shout out for everyone in the community,” says English summing up the successful event.
