A woman from Steinbach is in Thailand and saw first hand how the country came together in support of the 12 soccer players and their coach who were trapped in a cave for over a week before being found.

After being trapped for ten days in a flooded cave complex in northern Thailand, the 12 boys and their coach were found last Monday and the last of the group was rescued from the cave this past Tuesday evening.

Shayli Patrick is teaching at a private school in Thailand. "It's been very interesting. You can definitely see a unity of people coming together," explains Patrick when asked about what this whole experience has been like in Thailand. "Just the whole country coming together hoping that these soccer players would make it out of the cave. It was really cool to be a part of that."

Patrick adds once the last of the team was rescued, there was a sense of relief among everyone in the country. "Even my students were very excited to talk about it and were very happy themselves that they all got out safely."

Patrick says the people in Thailand were blown away by how much intense coverage this rescue mission got internationally.
