Steinbach’s Main Street is in for a major facelift this summer.

Mayor Earl Funk says the city was recently notified that Main Street repairs are currently in Manitoba Infrastructure’s budget for 2020.

"Our Main Street is about 25 years old right now. The intersections, we have been replacing those since 2015 with a cost-share from the province but now that leaves the mid-blocks and those mid-blocks are also showing their wear. It has been put in the budget so if this is approved in the finalizing of the budget, our Main Street will be repaired this year."

Funk says all of the mid-block panels of cement that are crumbling and wearing down will be replaced which will make for a busy summer of construction in downtown Steinbach.

"It is going to be quite a toll on our Main Street and it will be a disruption but they have promised that for Summer in the City and our parade, they will fix our Main Street in such a way that we can use it and we will be able to have those things going in our community."
