Steinbach RCMP have issued a few reminders to keep Halloween safe Tuesday evening. Community Constable Dennis Redikop says children get very excited and tend to get running back and forth across the street as they go door-to-door. He suggests that they have a system in place before setting out.

"Walk with groups, walk with an adult, never walk alone and always wear something bright, with colours and something reflective so, when a kid crosses a street, that a motorist can see them. Only visit well-lit houses, don't go to a dark house and stay outside, never walk into a house."

Redikop says children should never consume any treats until after they have been checked by a parent or adult.

In Winnipeg, police are advising parents to be on the lookout for small nickel-sized paper blotters laced with Fentanyl, a street drug that can be deadly. Redikop says he's not aware of any of that showing up in Steinbach.

"So far I'm not aware of anything here in Steinbach but we always have to proceed with caution with anything we touch or take from a stranger. Always make sure that, with anything you receive from somebody else, you proceed with caution and always wait for a parent or an adult to inspect the candies before they are eaten."

Redikop also asks motorists to use extra caution tonight as there will be many children out on the streets.
