Steinbach Mayor Earl Funk says it was great to hear the news Friday that Niverville is proceeding with a recreation multiplex thanks to $11.3 million in provincial and federal grants. The Town of Niverville is putting in an additional $5 million and hopes to raise a further $3.5 million for the almost $20 million dollar project. Funk says he is pleased for Niverville and not at all envious that they were able to put together a package of government funding like this while Steinbach has so far been unable to, despite years of trying.

Mayor Earl Funk"Our time is coming. I'm not jealous at all. I think our time is definitely coming. We've also gotten great amounts of funding from both our federal and provincial governments. If you look at the Highway #12 construction of all the intersections, that was over $4 million, our water supply and treatment plant, that was, combined, over $6 million and then of course this last one, the Rest Haven PCH (Personal Care Home) with 143 beds, that is a huge number."

Funk adds that recreation renewal is a priority for this council and he believes that this council will get it done.

"I do believe that this council will do a recreational project, that recreation renewal is a priority for this council and I do believe we will be doing a project. It's too soon to say because we have not yet had our summer study session."

Funk acknowledges the pressure is on, now that Niverville has achieved a package for new recreation facilities.

"It will be and I think we will definitely rise above the pressure and I think we will get the job done."
