The Steinbach Lions Club are excited to add a couple new members in 2016 and are looking forward to starting a big new fundraising project in 2017.

Club President Henry Unger says the Lions Club is very active in the southeast. He notes they are involved in many cookouts for charity events, business functions and grand openings and are always excited when more people want to join.

Paul Andre is accepted as a member"We are kind of excited this year because we have gotten two new members this term from September until June, so half a year into our new term and we have two new members. Right now we have 25 members. We meet twice a month and have our meetings and we are usually doing cookouts and raising money for the community."

Unger says a highlight this past year was raising and donating $2,000 to the Headway Program in Steinbach that helps local teens. He notes they were also able to donate money to Operation Red Nose, Canadian Diabetes Foundation, and the Lions Eye Bank of Manitoba. He says the Lions Club is a great way to get involved in the community and helping others.

Unger says they are always trying to find new ways to help and are hoping to take on a big new fundraising project for 2017.

"The biggest thing I think next year we are trying to work with is guide dogs, we are trying to get together with K-9 Canada to see if maybe we can get sponsorship for a K-9 dog. It is approximately $30,000 for a guide dog, there is about a one year training and it is a very unique and special project ."

Unger says the Steinbach Lions Club is looking forward to a great year.
