April was another fantastic month for construction activity in Steinbach.
That is according to Councilor Damian Penner. He notes it is great to see many Steinbach residents making the most of their yards with new decks, fences and pools this year, but one large project in particular really stands out.
"The major highlight is the new Freightliner building coming to Steinbach which is going to add multiple jobs. These are the small to medium-sized businesses that we have been talking about wanting to attract, the mid-income range employers that employ 30, 40, or 50 families at a time. It is great to see that coming up and we welcome them to the community as well as the 17 new family dwelling units that are being added this month."
Mayor Earl Funk says these strong numbers show that Steinbach continues to be a desirable community to live and do business in.
"The total value of permits is $10.48M, we have almost $3.3M in residential and just under $7.2M in commercial, industrial, schools, that kind of stuff. It just goes to show, commercial business in Steinbach is alive and well. Last year we saw so many single-family dwellings and residential RMD and now we are seeing a lot more industrial, a lot more commercial."
The Freightliner development accounts for $5.4M of the commercial development and a major renovation at Superstore accounts for $1.3M.
Funk adds, we can expect the rest of the year to be similarly busy in Steinbach.
“We are at just under $20.2M year-to-date. We are having a fantastic year and I have been talking to developers, I have been talking to businesses that are looking at Steinbach and I think we are going to be seeing a lot more development this year yet."
So far in 2021, a total of 63 dwelling units have been added to the City of Steinbach.
