The Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club says it is doing better than most golf clubs in the province. At the annual meeting Saturday, the club reported more than 21,000 rounds were played last season which was up slightly from the past few years. Club President Darren Klassen says, by comparison, many other clubs are reporting a decline in rounds.

Darren Klassen"We know that the community support that we get is helping us do better than most people in the golf industry. So, we continue to see our numbers outperform a lot of our competitors."

On the financial side of things, Klassen says the Fly-In had a net loss of $72,000 last year which is half as much as the previous year. He notes they are working on developing new streams of revenue such as various corporate opportunities to get back into the black.

"We're looking for ways to generate revenue outside of golf. We know that there are supporters of the golf club and many have stepped up to say, let us know what we need to do. So, we're looking forward to working with them and engaging the broader community to provide that support."

Meanwhile, course superintendent Rob Fast says they are waiting for the weather to warm up so they can prepare the course for the coming season and the opening date remains to be determined.
