The Steinbach Fire Department spent several hours overnight at a condominium complex on the city's south end.

Fire Chief Kel Toews says they were called to a suite on the third floor along Chapel Drive. Toews says it appears a light fixture caused an electrical fire in the attic.

"So we had to do a bit more overhaul there this morning," says Toews. "We removed a large portion of the insulation out of the attic and we shouldn't be called out again."

The fire department was on scene another 90 minutes.

According to Toews, the fire was contained to one bedroom. He gives a damage estimate of between $10,000 and $20,000. The Fire Chief suggests that after a bit of cleanup, the resident should be able to stay there again. He notes the ladder truck was set up but not required.

Toews says the fire was called in by the resident living there.
