Steinbach city council and the city's administration will spend this weekend at their fall study session. Mayor Chris Goertzen outlines what is on the agenda.

"The overriding issue that we are always dealing with is our budget. In our budget for 2018, there are lots of pressures on the city to make sure that we have good infrastructure in place and that we continue to have vision for a recreational and cultural facilities. So there will be a lot of discussion around that as well as other types of policies that we'll probably need to deal with this next year."

On the subject of recreational and cultural facilities, Goertzen says city council is continuing to gather input.

"We know that we have aging infrastructure when it comes to cultural facilities as well as recreation. We have continued to listen to different business people, we've continued to listen to different user groups to hear what they'd like to see and where they'd like us to go. It's a difficult thing for us to deal with because it involves a lot of dollars. But, if we have partners, if we have vision, I think we can accomplish that as we move forward."

Goertzen says we should also not be surprised at how long it is taking to find the appropriate solution to this matter adding that rushing into something often creates errors.

"We, as a council, need to represent the city as a whole and try and find a way that we can find something that is reasonably priced, that is visionary and yet, at the same time, does meet the needs for the future of our city."
