Steinbach RCMP issued a number of charges last week through holiday checkstops. Officers checked 195 vehicles at seven checkstops.

Two motorists were charged with impaired driving and one received a roadside suspension for a blood-alcohol level above .05. In addition, a driver was charged for having open liquor in a vehicle and police issued four tickets for violations of the Highway Traffic Act.

Meanwhile province-wide, 2500 vehicles were checked through 59 checkstops. Of those, 28 people were charged for impaired driving, 23 for alcohol, 2 drug and 3 who refused a breathalyzer test.

RCMP report the highest blood alcohol reading was 3.5 times the legal limit. Nine people were charged with improper storage of alcohol or cannabis in a vehicle, ten people were ticketed for using a hand-held electronic device while driving and four people were ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt. 

Provincewide, RCMP charged 28 people for impaired driving during the first week of Holiday Ccheckstops, including two for being impaired by drugs. Ten people were charged for using a hand-held electronic device while driving.
