The president of the Steinbach Auto Dealers Association confirms 2016 was a record high for car sales.

Doug Kreutzer from Harvest Honda says, in Canada, there was a record 1.95-million vehicles sold and Steinbach saw positive sale numbers as well. Kreutzer notes the industry has changed over the years.

Doug Kreutzer"The traditional four-door sedan and two-door coupe was kind of the mainstay within the industry. Over the last numerous years the light truck segment, the sport utilities, have really taken over that segment. They're taking the consumer that would traditionally buy a four-door sedan and they're moving into sport utilities and trucks."

He adds growth and change are coming to the auto industry including more electric vehicles, possible hydrogen technology, and more technology in general terms.

Kreutzer says the high car sales show the economy is holding, if not growing, which is a positive sign.
