The Manitoba Municipal Board has announced it will reconvene a public hearing into Steinbach's application to annex land from the RM of Hanover. The board ruled in January that Steinbach will only be able to annex a 30-year supply of land instead of the 50-year supply it had requested. Troy Warkentin, the city's Chief Administrative Officer, says the reconvened hearing will involve presentations as to which land should be included in the 30-year plan.

"From what I understand from the public notice, the board is willing to hear any further submissions, particularly from the City of Steinbach and others, who may have some additional information or evidence that they wish to provide with respect to the particular lands that the board recommended."

The hearing will take place Wednesday, June 7th at 6:30 p.m. at the Steinbach Curling Club. Warkentin says the city is hoping for a decision soon.

"The city is keenly interested in a timely response. The process has been in the works for approximately four years and we're hoping that the board is able to render a decision very quickly, hopefully by early summer."
