The Town of Ste Anne is canceling their annual Dawson Trail Days community celebration.

Recreational Service Manager Sarah Normandeau says Council made their decision due to COVID-19.

“It’s a decision that we do not take lightly and it’s not something that they wanted to do,” says Normandeau, “but the restrictions are so intense that I think it wouldn’t be a good idea.”

Normandeau mentions planning and how with such short notice it may not have been possible to prepare for the event. “At this point, we would have had most things planned,” says Normandeau. “Our program would have been out, businesses would have known about it, and everything would pretty much have been done by now.”

Normandeau acknowledges the decision is a downer, however, Council had to consider safety and the adherence to provincial guidelines.

“It’s disappointing for sure,” admits Normandeau. It’s something we look forward to every year in the community and it’s something the Dawson Trail Days planning really looks forward to every year.”
