The new fire hall being built at Ste. Agathe is expected to open in mid-July.

Mitch Duval is Chief Administrative Officer for the Rural Municipality of Ritchot. He says if you were to visit the site today, you would witness "an organized hectic." He notes the walls and rafters are up and the exterior work is largely complete. Crews are now concentrating on the building's interior.

According to Duval, the concrete floor for the classroom and administration area was poured a few weeks ago and right now they are framing and wiring that space. He adds the goal this last week was to pour the floor in the apparatus bay area. Because of the floor heat pipe and draining troughs, he says it will be a slow pour.

Duval says the original timeline was for the hall to be operational in mid-June. He says to be out by only a few weeks means they are pretty much on target.

The cost to build the facility was expected to be $1.7 million. Duval says they remain on budget.

He says there have been no major hurdles to cross during construction. Aside from some strong winds earlier this spring which caused a couple of days delay, Duval says the project has moved in a timely fashion.

The hall is expected to be home to 18 volunteer firefighters and one truck. The municipality has purchased a new pumper which is being modified. Duval says the fire chief will have to decide where to put the new pumper and whether Ste. Agathe rather gets one of the older units in the municipality.
