St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Steinbach will hold Sunday services in a different part of the building today because of construction in the sanctuary and foyer. Don Neufeld is chair of the board. He says an expansion project has progressed to the point where the back of the sanctuary has been opened up so it can be enlarged. Neufeld says, once completed, the front of the church will still have an A-Frame design but will take on a new look.

"The front is going to have a totally different look. It always had stained glass in it. Unfortunately, with some of the building codes today, it's almost impossible to stay with the same look. Some of the stained glass was removed. We don't know what we'll do with it at this time but it may be used some place in the interior for decorating."

Neufeld says the project involves some significant changes in the building.

"If you go past the church today, you'll see that all the brick on the front wall has been removed. At this time, what will happen is that the steel structure will be put up. The balcony is being moved back. The balcony, where it was before, the main rail is going to be where the old outside wall was."

Neufeld expects services will be able to move back into the sanctuary next Sunday. He says the project is slated for completion by mid-June.
