Construction of the new fire hall in Blumenort is scheduled to start this spring.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says Penfor Construction of Blumenort was awarded the tender for project management services. Wiebe is working with them to pull some final numbers together and get the design finalized. He notes construction should be completed by late fall. The hall is expected to be operational sometime during the first six months of 2019.

Wiebe says the project is moving along well. The 18 firefighters started their training back in September. The firefighters are well on their way to completing their level one. Following that, there will be some additional hazmat training as well as vehicle extrication training to take place.

The municipality recently tendered the personal protective gear for the firefighters. Up until now, they have been using surplus gear. Wiebe hopes that equipment will be in place by the end of February.

Meanwhile, he is currently developing specs for the three trucks that will be used by the Blumenort hall. Wiebe suggests within the next month that should go out to tender.

The hall will go up along Penner Drive, south of Granny's.
