With school out and spring break on, there are many options for students to keep busy in the southeast.

Cassandra Milcharek from the Steinbach Arts council says they have a fun week planned this year for kids ages nine to twelve.

"We have our Spring Break Out camps, we're super excited, we're going to have a full house with 40-50 kids coming through the building. It's an intense art filled week and it's literally like breaking out of school. You get to come to the arts council and dance, music, visual arts, culinary arts, recreation and pretty much everything you love to do on your week off."

Milcharek adds this week's theme is Canada 150 as we celebrate our nation throughout the year.

Kids section of the Jake Epp LibraryThe Jake Epp Library is going to be a hot spot for students and families who have the week off and Program Coordinator Madi Friesen says they have four big events planned for the week. She notes that Tuesday they are hosting Wildlife Haven, a teen day on Wednesday, craft day on Thursday and to cap the week off, an event for the whole family on Friday.

"Our last event is family movie day on Friday at one o'clock so if you want to come and watch the Wizard of Oz it's a free event for the whole family. We start at one and you also get free popcorn with that."

Friesen recommends calling in advance to guarantee your spot for all the activities happening this week.

Jane Hansen of the Steinbach Aquatic Centre is looking forward to a busy spring break. She says they have opened multiple slots for people to come swimming.

"We have lots of public swims available for people. We are open every day Monday to Friday, we have three different swims, 11:30-2, 3-5:30 and then 6:30-9."

Hansen notes in a day they can see over 800 people come through the door, and advises people to call in advance to reserve their spot, as public swim times are filling up fast.
