A near record high class from College Regional Gabrielle-Roy officially completed their high school journey last night.

Vice Principal Joel Mangin says this group of 66 students is very enthusiastic and has always had a lot of school spirit.

"One thing that stands out to me with this group is that anytime we had school activities, they were always game for participating and that’s one thing I did note with this group, I talked to a few of them a week ago, is that I always appreciated that it was never a chore to get to participate. Whether we had grade wars, Halloween activities, regardless if they were athletic or academic, athletic or more vocational, their participation in school activities was always very nice."

Mangin notes about half the students will attend university in the fall while the rest will pursue trade or work opportunities and adds some will travel for the year. M

Mangin says the valedictorians were chosen anonymously through a survey to keep it a surprise from the rest of the class. They only students who knew were none other than the valedictorians themselves who are Ariel Hebert and Annick Clement. Clement says although she was nervous to speak in front of the community, it's an honour to have been chosen by her peers to represent them.

"I’m honoured to be honest. The fact that they chose me like I tried to be friends with everyone in my class and get to know them so the fact that they chose me just feels good."

Ariel Hebert also agrees with Mangin's comments and says they are a group that definitely stands out.

"This year in grade 12 we won grade wars, we also won it last year in grade 11 which had never been done and it was just such a cool moment that when they announced the winners we all ran up together and we all held up the trophy together and that’s just something that I’ll remember that we all did together."

The convocation was held last night at the Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church in Landmark.
