The southeast corner of Manitoba has received quite a bit more snow than the Steinbach area since Monday. Martin Van Osch, Chief Administrative Officer for the RM of Piney, says South Junction got about 11 centimetres of snow and areas further east got about 20 centimetres. He notes, because of the wind, there is heavy snow cover on some roads.

"In many areas, where it's open, the snow has blown clear off the roads. But our municipality has a fair bit of timbered area and in those areas the snow has remained on the roads. Municipal plows are out. We've been getting reports that Highway #12 is cleared but there are snow packed areas on the roads and there are some slippery sections. But the municipal plows are out and we anticipate that by tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, we'll have all the municipal roads cleared as well."

Van Osch says while snowmobile riders are anxious to get going, they should proceed with caution because the snow is not yet thick enough to cover up many stumps and rocks.

Meanwhile, a store clerk in Falcon Lake tells us they've had closer to ten inches of snow there with heavier amounts to the east.
