La Verendrye Conservative MLA Dennis Smook has been nominated to run in the next provincial election. The nominating meeting was held Wednesday afternoon in La Broquerie. Smook says he is excited to be running for re-election. But he notes this will be an extra busy time because his riding will be significantly different in the next election due to boundary re-alignment.

"I will miss a lot of the people that I got to know since the 2011 election in the part of the constituency that was on the north side of the Trans-Canada Highway. And, I look forward to serving the new constituents I will have in the RM of De Salaberry and part of Hanover."

Under electoral boundary re-alignment, gone are areas of La Verendrye including the RM's of Reynolds and Whitemouth along with Whiteshell Provincial Park and parts of the RM of Springfield. New areas that were added are the RM of De Salaberry and part of the RM of Hanover.

Smook says he won't forget about the parts of the riding north of the Trans-Canada as he begins to campaign in new parts of the riding, even though that will be a big task.

"Hard work is something that has never scared me or bothered me. I intend to look after the riding that I have today with the same amount of effort as I did before. I will do what's necessary to keep everybody going there. And I will work a bit harder to get to know the people in the new part of the riding."

Smook was first elected to the Legislature in 2011.

The next election is expected to take place in 2020.
