The Town of Ste. Anne will be making some significant drainage improvements to their baseball diamonds in 2018.

Rec Director Sarah Normandeau says their baseball numbers have tripled in Ste. Anne and there has been considerably more use of their diamonds over the past three years. "If you have two days of rain and you have a not very good drainage system on your diamonds, then you could be running into some scheduling problems for sure," notes Normandeau. She explains there are four baseball diamonds in their park, two of which in better condition for league play and two that are a bit more beat up.

The town has allocated 100,000 dollars for upgrades to the baseball diamonds and Operations Manager John Desrochers says they’re looking to make some significant drainage improvements.

"Currently we’re just working on the plan on what we’re going to do. We’re not 100 percent sure to what extent we’re going to be able to go forward with this but we’re going to review the plans and see if it fits in the budget. If we have to dig them all up we will and if we can’t we won’t."

Desrochers adds the arena will also be getting a new zamboni in this year. He says their current unit has reached the end of its life so they're looking to purchase a used zamboni that is still in good condition.

"Our zamboni situation is we’re looking to upgrade to a new to us zamboni so we won’t be looking for a brand new one but we would like to upgrade what we currently have."

The town has budgeted $45,000 for the purchase of a new zamboni and hopes to have the new unit for the next hockey season.
