The Seine River School Division is hoping to conduct a traffic study at two of its schools to improve safety at pick up and drop off times.

In multiple cases, the division has two or more schools on the same street which Superintendent Mike Borgfjord says can make things quite congested. He notes they plan on doing the initial study at the Ste. Anne and Lorette school complexes.

Borgfjord says this doesn’t mean they are not considering other schools in Seine River but rather chose Lorette and Ste. Anne, to start, because they have the highest volume of students.

"We’ve been working with our committee and a lot with our schools and principals and looking at some of the challenges in different locations," he explains, "whether it’s student learning, parent learning or changes in what we do in terms of how we ensure there is a traffic flow and safety for students."

Borgfjord says they look forward to seeing what kind of recommendations come out of the report and if they can be replicated across all schools in Seine River.

Trustees have been discussing the issue for a number of months and are pleased the division is moving forward with concrete action.
