The Seine River School Division has outlined its main priorities for the next five years.

Trustees approved their five-year capital plan Tuesday night.

"The number one priority for us is additional permanent space at Ste. Anne complex," states Superintendent Mike Borgfjord.

Ste. Anne Elementary, Immersion and Collegiate are all under one large roof.

He says by next year, they will have six portable classrooms in Ste. Anne along with two linked portables. Borgfjord indicates enrollment is only projected to increase and they're running out of room.

"Ideally, we'd love to have a wing and to be able to create an area for either the middle years or the K-8 english," he explains. Borgfjord hopes the province also sees an expansion in Ste. Anne as a priority.

"Really, right now, what we're saying is, we have identified space needs and it would be nice to have an addition."

Borgfjord says down the road it would be nice to have a new school in Ste. Anne but adds they will start with an addition for now. He adds until they get more space, they will need to continue to apply for portable classrooms on an annual basis.

"Growth in the Ste. Anne area doesn't seem to be shrinking, it seems to be growing at a more rapid pace so we're anticipating much higher enrolment," says Borgfjord.

"We're continuing to work and advocating for our community."

Other priorities in the capital plan include vocational programs for Seine River's high schools, science lab renovation for St. Norbert Collegiate, additions at a number of the division's schools, and a multi-purpose room for Lorette Collegiate. One item also on the list is a new high school in La Broquerie but Borgfjord says that has been part of their capital plan for a number of years.
