With all members of Niverville Town Council returning for the next four years, the Niverville Chamber of Commerce held a town hall meeting on Monday rather than an all candidates forum.

Niverville Town Council was elected by acclamation when no new candidates came forward to run against the incumbents.

Councillor Kevin Stott says many of the questions that were posed to council came directly from residents of the town. He notes it was great to hear from them and learn about their priorities. He notes two topics that came to the forefront were recreation and safety.

Councillors chatting with residents who attended the town hall"As far as safety, with moving the schools to other sides, they are noticing that we do have a set of railway tracks running through town and it has become a big concern. You do notice on our Main Street now with the amount of traffic moving through it that both the morning and in the evening there is a lot of traffic on Main that we do have to change some of our methods for safety."

Chamber of Commerce President John Magri says even though residents won’t be choosing their council on election day October 24th, they still want residents to have a chance to voice their opinions.

"The majority of our questions that we had today were from our community and from our residents and we felt that it was important that we give them an opportunity to voice some of their ideas and their plans for the future. We all feel that Niverville is at the cusp of a lot of new and exciting things and even though we did not have an election, we do have a council that is open to listening to our community."

Magri says the chamber already had a date set for a forum and just decided to change the event to a town hall when the candidates were elected by acclamation.

Other topics that were prominent Monday evening were business development, Main Street re-development, communication, and vision for the future.
