Most ratepayers in the RM of Ste Anne will not be looking at increases to their mill rate or taxes in 2020.

“It’s staying the same at 8.52,” says Chief Administrative Officer Jennifer Gilmore in regard to this year’s mill rate.

“The municipality chose to keep it the same because our assessment went up due to the general election by approximately 6%.”

Gilmore suggests the savings will assist expenditures like the cost of living and others that rise over time.

“Our whole taxation for the year is about 8 million, just over 5 of that is school taxes,” shares Gilmore, “so to break it down, that means about 44% of our taxation is municipal and about 56%.”

Gilmore is quick to state that after considering other revenue such as provincial grants, the percentages are closer to 48% for school taxes and 52% for municipal.

The 2020 general assessment held fairly steady but was not without its surprises as farm taxes went up 16.4% whereas residential and commercial kept mostly on par with last year.

“Unfortunately, for the farmers that are only on farmland in our municipality, it will be increasing,” offers Gilmore, “I would state, dramatically.”

g some of that may come back from program funding.

The electric charging stations would appear under the solar panels on the east side of the municipal office.
