The town of Niverville is getting some land from the Rural Municipality of Ritchot. The kicker is that the land is actually located within Niverville town limits.

The land is 68 feet by 530 feet and sits southwest of the arena, near the site for the planned multiplex. The Town of Niverville administration suggests Ritchot took ownership of this land in either 1963, 1969 or possibly as recent as 2001.

"Kind of funny to see that it was just kind of a forgotten little black hole," says Ritchot Mayor Chris Ewen.

"What we want to do is turn it over to Niverville so they can start their project for the multiplex," he says. "I know they have some road work that they are looking to do and I think it falls into that black hole."

Ewen admits it is highly unusual for one municipality to own land in another. Though obviously, this happened long before he ever held the post of Mayor.

"This is an odd one for me so I'm not too sure what to say," adds Ewen.

According to Ewen, the selling price for this land will probably be one dollar. He notes they just really want to help out the town with its new multiplex.

"If there's more arenas there's more time to play for our kids and our families," suggests Ewen. "So we're excited for the project and we're more than willing to work with minimal dollar value."
