Council for the Rural Municipality of Ritchot is considering re-establishing its Finance Committee.

Mayor Chris Ewen says after their by-election in July of 2017, council brought back each of its committees, except for Finance. He notes instead their Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer have been reporting to council.

Ewen explains the reason to re-instate their Finance Committee is not because there have been any financial discrepancies that have forced this decision.

"We've always had a tight ship here, the RM of Ritchot, the administration does a fantastic job with the finances," notes Ewen. "It's kind of just so we know what's going on so if the people ever ask, have any questions for us, we can answer them a little bit more thoroughly having a Finance Committee."

Ewen admits this decision was not something he suggested but was rather the rest of council calling for more thorough checks on the numbers. He adds council is undecided what the makeup of this committee will be.

"I would like to see no more than three council members to report to all of council," he says. "Some of us like myself aren't great with numbers, but then there's other councillors that are. So if we can get those councillors on board to show us what's going on, it just runs a lot smoother."

Ewen says they will wait until after the October 24th election to establish this committee.
