The outdoor rink in Richer could be getting a new look in the near future.

Dan Guetre, the Director of the Richer Community Club explains the plan is simply to put a roof over the rink to keep it out of the elements. He notes it would be an open-air structure with the ceiling about 15 feet high. Guetre says they have raised $103,000 through corporate sponsorship and adds they hope council will come through with $125,000.

Reeve Art Bergmann says if approved, the money would likely come from Bipole III money that the municipality has been putting into reserves. He notes the municipality has come alongside the Richer Community Club before when they poured concrete at the outdoor rink. Bergmann says this is a logical second step to that and a step in the right direction.

"We've had a public hearing, there's lots of support for it," adds Bergmann who notes this project would not have an implication on resident's taxes. "Council has heard their proposal before and we will adjudicate on that at our next meeting."

Guetre says the total cost of the project is about $350,000 and he adds if council contributes their part, the remaining funds would hopefully come through government grants.
