Steinbach city council has approved the rezoning of a property at 209 Stonebridge Crossing to accommodate six townhouse units. The zoning is being changed from low density residential to medium density. Councillor Michael Zwaagstra says there were no objections from neighbours at a public hearing. He moved approval of the change.

"There are several other properties in the immediate vicinity that are also zoned RMD (Residential Medium Density) so it fits with the general tenor of the neighbourhood. I appreciate to hear that the applicant has taken the time to consult with some of the neighbours and that there aren't any significant concerns. That's probably part of the reason why we don't have any objections this evening. It's always good to see that proactive approach so I think it's appropriate for us to move ahead."

Deputy Mayor John Fehr seconded the motion.

"I think it will fit in well with the building next door. I also appreciate that the applicant has taken due diligence to make sure that it fits the property, that the parking stalls meet requirements and stuff. I think it will be good for that area."

Developer John Terrick told council they plan to build a quality project and rent the units for between $850 and $900 a month.
