A resident of Cottonwood Drive in the RM of La Broquerie came before council on Wednesday to have a discussion about the ongoing drainage issues in the area.

Jim Rogers told council he has lived in the area for about 30 years and has seen how the drainage issues result in impassable roads the next spring because of frost boils. He expressed concerns felt by other residents as well as possible solutions to improve the situation and not cause problems further downstream.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says there was a plan to try and improve drainage this year, but it was cancelled.

"We had it figured out to do it all this year but the one property owner changed his mind. So, we had the permits, everything was through to do all the work and then a property owner changed his mind and therefore we had to scrap that idea."

Weiss notes there was another idea presented, but it was met with opposition from the residents.

"There had been a proposal of draining a neighbouring development across some properties and into their street along Cottonwood. So, obviously we were met with quite a bit of negative input there because they already have problems, they don't want more water."

Ron Kowalchuk was in attendance at the meeting and Weiss says, together with council, they will be looking at two specific solutions to determine which will have the best results.

Weiss adds there are drainage issues in the municipality but council is working to effectively fix each area, noting he's looking forward to having the results from the LiDAR mapping to know the elevation levels in each area of the municipality.
