A fundraising event that began in 2015, then took 2 years off due to pandemic restrictions was back in full swing, complete with a classic rock concert, this past Saturday night. Raising more money than Steinbach Community Outreach (SCO) staff could have imagined.

Charlene Kroeker, Office Manager at SCO says, “We had a fantastic night tonight. The magic was amazing. The music was fantastic. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was a great time, and we had a packed house at the Neufeld Garage in Randolph.”

Kroeker says it was great to see everyone again, especially to be able to meet in person.

“It's nice to be able to put faces to the donors and for the community as well, to hear in person, what it is we all do and to hear right from our guests who come to Outreach, our clients who are sharing their stories with us. I think it makes such a big impact.”

Kroeker says the event consisted of music by the group “Crossfire” from Steinbach, magician Evan Morgan, snacks and testimonies. They heard the story of someone who used to be a guest at Steinbach Community Outreach, and who now comes back to volunteer. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Donna shared her story.

“It just brings tears to your eyes. To know that you have made a difference in someone's life when they're sharing their story. I think it's also really great that the community can hear it right from her. When a person is in need that someone is there for them. I think that's fantastic.”

Kroeker says, they meet people every day at Outreach who need help in some form or another and they do everything they can to help that individual.

At the first Rockin’ for a Reason, 7 years ago, Steinbach Community Outreach and Today House hoped to raise $5,000 and more than $16,000 came in. In 2019, the last time the event was held donations came in at $17,305 and now after a 2-year hiatus Kroeker says their donors have gone over and above.
