There are water problems in parts of Steinbach Friday due to rain Thursday night, melting temperatures and ice-plugged culverts. One such area is Rockwood Drive in the city's east end.

Reporter Jamie Roy is on scene and says he talked to one homeowner.

"We just talked to John Peters and he was telling us that just a few weeks ago, three weeks ago, he had about a metre of water in his basement from that last thaw we had and he's predicting that it will seep in again with how high the water level is today. It's right around his house. I see just a small patch of grass sticking up in his whole yard but, other than that, it's water right around."

Roy adds ditches in the Rockwood area are full and the water is spilling over onto streets and yards.

Similar scenarios are expected throughout the southeast until frozen culverts are opened. There could be a brief reprieve Friday night as the temperature drops to -17 but warmer weather is forecast to return Saturday with the temperature rising to +7 by Sunday afternoon.
