Today the Clearspring Mall in Steinbach is the place to be if you're an R/C plane enthusiast.

The Diamond Aces R/C Flying Club hosted their annual mall show this Saturday. Longstanding member of the club, Ed Voth says this is an event where the members of the club bring out a couple of their own R/C planes to display for the public. He also adds that this is a good time to come chat with the members about their creation, to see what the club does and what they're about.

Voth notes the club currently has 25 members adding this is one of their two big events of the year, the second being their big annual meet in late August. He says the Annual Fun Fly brings out people from all over the province.

"Usually we get people Winnipeg, from Kenora, the odd guy from Gimli and a couple guys from Winkler. So we meet there and we just have a full day of fun, flying, and food."

The planes vary in style and size from float planes to jets. They all bring one common thing together, a group of people passionate about building and flying R/C planes. Voth says he has quite the R/C plane collection of his own and has no concerns flying them.

"Eventually you just learn that you're just going to fly it until it crashes. I've actually gone four summers without a crash. Some people think you're just always going to crash but no that's not the case. The other thing is it's so easy to learn nowadays because we have fantastic technology. We hook two transmitters together electronically, so it's almost like flying at Harv's air, you have a student with controls and you have a pilot with controls."

Voth adds this is a very easy hobby to get into and they welcome anyone to join their club.

The planes are on display till around 4pm on Saturday.
