Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck at an open houseNiverville’s new development plan has been officially approved by the province.

Mayor Myron Dyck says every municipality is asked to re-do their development plan every five years so that the province has an idea of where they are looking to put residential, industrial, and commercial development. He says this new development plan is particularly important as Niverville has grown in size over the last five years.

"The Town of Niverville went through an annexation process with a neighbour to the R.M. of Hanover so that took a couple years to complete. That has been part of the process, we have worked through all of that now, we were able to submit our development plan and the province has approved it and we should be good for another five years."

Niverville grew by 340 acres when the annexation of Hanover land became official on January 1, 2017. Dyck says in the process of putting together this plan, the town has tried to keep residents in the loop.

"We had open houses, we hired engineers to assist us in assuring that what we thought as council was prudent and through the open houses, a lot of opportunity for questions to be asked. Presentations were given and so I think we have done a fairly good job of communicating it."
