Improvements have been announced for an intersection north of Oakbank.

Manitoba Infrastructure Minister Ron Schuler says improvements will be completed this summer to the intersection at Provincial Road 206 and PR 213. That is two miles north of Oakbank.

Work this year will include reducing the speed zone on PR 206 approaching PR 213, flags highlighting the stop signs ahead on PR 213, rumble strips in advance of the stop sign on PR 213 and the installation of a flashing red light on the stop signs.

Schuler says Tuesday's announcement is the first step in a bigger plan, which includes the feasibility of a roundabout.

The safety improvements are expected to be completed by early July.

The improvements were announced less than five weeks after a crash there involving a Dodge Ram and Ford Escape. Though police reported injuries were minor, both vehicles received significant damage.

"It's just last month that our council passed a resolution to support this initiative by Manitoba Infrastructure," says RM of Springfield Mayor Tiffany Fell. "We are very pleased the province is acting so quickly on these important safety measures at the intersection."
