Provincial Road 246 near Aubigny has been fully reopened to traffic, about 6 months after heavy rainfall destroyed a section of embankment south of the community. The July 9th incident also caused a washout at Aubigny Drain.

Ralph Groening, Reeve for the R.M. of Morris, says work has wrapped up on a set of concrete culverts being installed at the trouble spot and traffic has resumed.

"This is good news for not only for the local residents, but I think anyone who uses PR 246 up to Aubigny for transportation," he said.

Originally slated for completion by the end of August, the project timeline was bumped back several times with the end date eventually slated for the end of December 2019.

"We understand the challenges that were involved," noted Groening. "It's a huge project. Anyone who saw the pictures of the washout would appreciate the difficulty of bringing adequate culverts in."

While traffic has resumed on the stretch of road, some final work is being done at the site and Groening urges motorists to use caution when passing workers.

Meantime, additional culvert work is scheduled along PR 246 this summer as part of preparations to turn the roadway into a flood detour route on the east side of the Red River.

Groening says there is no timeline for that project, but he expects the final hard surfacing of the road will take place in 2021.
