The Town of Niverville is approaching the completion of another infrastructure enhancement.

“Sixth Avenue is in the process of getting pavement for about 75% of the road,” shares Mayor Myron Dyck, “all the way from our Main Street, which is PR 311, to about three-quarters of a mile south.”

Dyck explains that the project was slated for September of last year, however, heavy rains kept the crew from beginning construction.

emails and we have to put in speedbumps.”

Dyck goes into detail explaining why the road requires as much excavation and grading, revealing some interesting history along the way.

“The way they used to build roads back in the 1800s for the ox carts, is you dug your ditches for drainage and put that topsoil, or silt, to make your roads.”

The result of which is a lengthened construction process involving digging out the existing materials in order to replace it with better base substances.

“It was a bit of an undertaking,” admits the Mayor before finishing with some more history about the road.

“It was actually an old trail they used to run from this area into Winnipeg, and the surrounding communities.”
