Police have confirmed the suspicions of a hunter who found what he thought was a human skull while hunting in the RM of Tache last weekend.

Steinbach RCMP received the report at 7:00 PM Saturday evening. Since then, forensics teams and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner have been working to identify the human remains.

Meanwhile, residents living along road 52N, five miles north of Ste, Anne, say they have noticed a steady stream of police vehicles driving through their area.

“The RCMP have been going by quite often since Sunday morning,” notes resident Lorn Mourant “The other day I saw two cars about a mile away from here plus an investigation van.”

Though Mourant says he was unaware any human bones had been found, he says he noticed that much of the recent Police activity seemed to centralize around Chemin Perrin Road just off of Municipal Road 52N "where the bushes meet the field".

One of Mourant’s neighbors is a newcomer to the area, she comments: “I did notice a police car which I had never seen in this area before and I just saw on the news that there was a skull finding in the Tache-area so I was wondering if they were related.”

At this point, police believe the remains are quite old, though their exact age is unknown and the investigation remains ongoing. RCMP have provided no further information.
