The Chief Administrative Officer for Tache says their fastest growing community is running low on available lots. But, Christine Hutlet says the municipality is working with Landmark Planning & Design to open up an additional 1.24 square kilometres worth of commercial and residential lots northwest of Lorette.

The land is located north of Provincial Road 207 and between Heatherdale Road and Station Road. Hutlet explains this land has multiple owners.

"That's one of the reasons why we've decided to undertake a secondary plan," explains Hutlet. "Which sets a very high overview of any further development and subdivisions that will take place in the future."

She says through this plan they can ensure connectivity, including transportation, walking paths, green spaces and smaller commercial establishments for the next 25 years.

An open house was held last week, though Hutlet says it was more of an opportunity to present the plan to the public, as opposed to gathering feedback. She notes the information gathering happened through open houses held in 2018.

According to Hutlet, Lorette has very few available lots remaining. She notes everything is pretty much being built as either fill-in lots or there may be one or two lots remaining in the developments that were done back in 2013.

As for Tache as a whole, Hutlet says there are still quite a few rural residential lots left to be developed. There is also a significant development currently under construction in Landmark.

"The whole municipality itself is feeling some development pressures," says Hutlet. "But on a sustainable development perspective to try to keep your residential attached to your current residential just makes sense for future developments and the utilization of existing infrastructure."

Hutlet says she anticipates council will probably give first reading to the Lorette Northwest Secondary Plan within the next month or two. After that it must go to the province for review and approval before council can give second and third readings.
