A student pilot and instructor from Harv's Air in Steinbach safely landed a plane on its belly Thursday after noticing a problem with the landing gear.

The two were in the air and as they prepared to come in for a landing, they noticed a problem.

"One of our training airplanes had difficulty with the landing gear, the landing gear wouldn't retract all the way," says Operations Manager Adam Penner,"so they did a gear up landing," Penner says emergency crews were called in for precautionary measures. He adds the pilot's landed the plane without issue and walked out safely.

Penner notes landing on the belly of a plane is part of a pilot's training as an emergency procedure and thankfully the pilot's training worked. "It turned out well. They landed on the belly and just slid in."
