The Town of Niverville is one step closer to paving Arena Road and constructing a parking lot at the new Niverville High School.

Mayor Myron Dyck says they are now moving forward to the engineering stage of the project.

"With construction, there are different phases as you go through, different processes and so you design a certain amount of it and then you have to do more engineering. This is essentially the next step in the design of the parking lot and so today we awarded the amount for the engineering to be done to see that next phase of the parking lot engineered."

The work will cost the town $89,500 and will cover all engineering work for the paving of Arena Road, paving of the road from Arena Road to the school, and the construction of the parking lot at the Niverville High School. Dyck notes the roads leading to the new school have always been the responsibility of the town, but the town has agreed to share the parking lot project with the Hanover School Division for the sake of the town’s proposed Community Resource Centre.

Dyck says the town is still hoping to receive funding from the provincial and federal governments for the CRC project.

"We are trying to asses the risk of spending too much, and then suddenly it doesn't happen but we remain optimistic which is the same as we have been saying for several months. There are things we need to do to be ready as opposed to sitting on our hands and just wondering and then all of a sudden having to jump. We are trying to be somewhat proactive."
