A major paving project in Niverville has been postponed due to wet fall weather.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says construction work planned for 6th Avenue South will now have to wait until spring.

"We had hoped to have 6th Avenue paved before the winter set in but due to the wet fall that we have had, we have had unfortunately had 6th Avenue claimed by that same weather so it will not be done this year. However, we have talked to the contractor, they are willing to hold their price for next year and have assured us it will be done before the end of June."

The rebuilding of 6th Avenue South has been in the works for a number of years. Back in 2017 the north half of the road was dug up and rebuilt, followed by the south half in 2018. Paving was also supposed to take place over two years with the second half to be completed next year. Now that the first half has been postponed Dyck says council will take a look at their plan to complete the road in 2020.

"That is a decision for our planning session when we are looking at our budget for next year so I won't be able to confirm that right now. It is on the agenda for us to talk about at our planning session coming up in a week as well as what other things for 2020 are before us, we will see what we have and what we can do."

Fortunately, Dyck says paving at both the new Niverville High School and the Niverville town office parking lot was completed this year.
