There is now a park and ride located in the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

Last winter, the municipality discussed the idea of setting up a park and ride at the Tourond Creek Discovery Centre in order to remove some of the parked vehicles along Highway 52.

Chief Administrative Officer Luc Lahaie explained then that over the last number of years, more and more commuters have been setting up their own park and ride initiatives along that stretch of highway. The problem is, these vehicles are being parked on field access driveways or provincial drain allowances. As a result, it is causing grief to farmers who are finding it difficult to access their farmland.

Hanover Reeve Stan Toews says in a joint effort with Seine Rat River Conservation District, they have now opened the Tourond Creek Discovery Centre Park And Ride. It is located along the driveway of the former Kleefeld dump.

Toews says they have enlarged the driveway near the highway in order to accommodate more vehicles. He adds they will clear that parking lot of snow from time to time to keep it accessible throughout the winter.

Opening the Tourond Creek Discovery Centre Park And Ride cost $10,000. Hanover and Seine Rat River Conservation District each chipped in $5,000.

"It's worth investing because we see all kinds of cars parked along 52 at different places," explains Toews. "We feel this will be more safe, it's also environmentally friendly I guess because they are sharing rides."

In addition to that, Toews says it is great exposure for the Discovery Centre.
