A familiar puddle formed on a La Broquerie roadway last week, reminding residents of an ongoing drainage problem.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says the intersection of Rue Choiselat Street and Des Pignons Street was poorly designed and sinks underwater during any significant rainfall. Considering the number of recent downpours, this has been a source of frustration for the residents living in that area.

“I guess it was a bit of a design flaw,” comments Weiss who notes that the crossing has been an issue ever since it was built. The RM has recognized and dealt with this concern in the past, but, as Weiss implies, it was only a band-aid solution.

“We cut a surface drain from that location going straight north to the railway tracks where the culvert goes under,” he explains, “That did make a difference, but unfortunately when we get a lot of rain there is still a lot of buildup.”

According to Weiss, these efforts have reduced the maximum volume of water sitting on the road from roughly four feet high down to two, but he admits that decrease still does not make the road passable. However,  the RM is working on a solution.

“We’ve been in communication with the engineering company who designed it," comments Weiss, "and we are hoping they are willing to do something to repair that problem.”

Until that necessary maintenance takes place, Weiss encourages motorists to take other routes during heavy rainstorms.
