Steinbach's annual oil recycling day is just around the corner.

Eldon Wallman is Head of Solid Waste. He says for those looking to get rid of their used oil, they can bring it to the landfill on June 14th. For every five litres of used oil, you bring to the landfill, you will be handed one litre of brand new Co-op 5W-30 oil in return.

"We try and remove all the hazardous waste that we can, and oil is one of them," explains Wallman. "It's a big day for us, lots of oil we get in."

Another day for Steinbach residents to circle on their calendar is Saturday, May 13. That is the day of the first compost depot. Wallman says they run each Saturday at Woodlawn School and Stonybrook Middle School from May 13 to October 21.

For those wishing to pick up some compost, Wallman says there should be some ready for pickup at the landfill in about 10 days. Wallman explains they are screening this week. The compost is free of charge.

Meanwhile, Wallman hopes for 2,000 volunteers at Saturday's annual Pick-Up And Walk.

"What happens in those three hours, we could never duplicate," he says. "It's unbelievably appreciated by the staff."
