The Steinbach Skating Club will not be running this winter due to a lack of volunteers.

Coach Joelle Allden says there were two ladies who volunteered the last few years but, once their children were no longer skating, decided it was time to step away. Allden notes it only takes two to four people to form a club board. She adds with an average of 35 students in CanSkate and eight in Junior Star it was a surprise to have no volunteer interest from parents.

"It was very disappointing to see nobody was interested in, almost, taking that extra step in their kids extra-curricular lives. That they weren't willing to take that extra mile to hang out and be there for their kids."

Allden says to volunteer takes a couple hours a week.

"A lot of it is scheduling ice time and scheduling meetings with other parents, just being at the rink in case parents have questions. Some of it is promotional, and registering kids online."

She notes there are volunteers who run the skate club boards in Grunthal, Hazelridge, Niverville, and La Broquerie each season.
