The Town of Niverville is building a brand new outdoor rink for just under $75,000.

Mayor Myron Dyck says council awarded the contract to Armada Construction of Niverville. He notes this project has been in the works for a few years.

"It is something that has been getting tabled as we have done other recreation developments so it finally was on the priority list to be done and we wanted to see this done before another year passes. It is a recreational need that has been asked for in the community and we've been meaning to deliver it and we are really happy that this year it is going to be done."

Dyck says the outdoor rink will be built on the east side of the Niverville Arena.

"What will be able to happen is people will be able to use the arena changing facilities and then there will be an exterior door that we are hoping will have some rubber matting that they can walk directly from the indoor arena to use the outdoor ice surface."

Dyck says in addition to the construction of the outdoor rink, they are doing some electrical upgrades to the light standards on the arena parking lot that will also help serve the new outdoor rink. He adds the electrical work will cost the town $25,000.
