The new school being built in Niverville was officially named the Niverville High School on October 2.

This name was finalized following a community consultation in which over 100 different names were suggested. Hanover Superintendent Randy Dueck notes the chosen name reflects that feedback. “Overwhelmingly people wanted to retain the community identity: the name ‘Niverville’ needed to stay.”

Both the town and the School Board have learned a lot about the town’s history during this naming process says Dueck who notes the name comes from a French knight called Chevalier de Niverville. He shares another piece of interesting information: “We did a Google search, and there are not a lot of places called Niverville in North America, that word and name is actually very unique.”

Meanwhile, Dueck adds that the present Niverville Collegiate Institute will be changing its name to Niverville Middle School.
