Recent visitors to Hespeler Park in Niverville have most likely noticed a number of major upgrade projects.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says the first big project of the summer was a parking lot expansion on the south end of the park. He notes they have expanded the parking lot to the west to meet the parking demand.

The south end parking lot has been significantly expanded to the west."Based on increasing activity in the park, which we are grateful for, due to various activities and organizations which are hosting events, we had seen spill-over parking on some of the grassy areas and onto the road. At our last planning session this came up and it was decided that the grass section where they were parking anyway, we might as well make that into a parking lot."

Dyck says council hopes the parking lot expansion will make parking along Crown Valley Road Unnecessary. He adds the project was completed a couple of weeks ago. He notes the second major upgrade is a brand new playground that is currently being built.

"We had put forward a $300,000 playground addition right across the pathway from our splash pad and we were fortunate enough to receive a $100,000 grant towards it. We were looking at doing it over two years but with the grant, we are able to do it all this year. That will further enhance activities for families and you in the park."

According to Dyck, the new playground should be completed by the time Niverville holds their 50th anniversary celebration on September 8th, 2019. He notes Niverville is blessed with a beautiful space like Hespeler Park and council wants to continue enhancing that space for residents.
